Workshop: Arabidopsis
W11_02.html
A multinational research effort was undertaken to analyze the complete genome sequence of Arabidopsis thaliana. The gene content represents a fundamental toolbox for higher plant genomes. The sequence of the Arabidopsis genome has recently has been completed by an international joint effort from consortia on three continents. The complete genome has been annotated by a joint effort between the contributing analysis groups. Around 26000 genes are encoded by the Arabidopsis genome. We performed a detailed analysis of the complete genome sequence. Beside the in depth analysis and annotation of the individual genes we did an extensive analysis of tandem and segmental duplications present in the genome. An intergenome comparison of the Arabidopsis gene set to various complete genomes has been performed. Data on similarities and differences to other species in relation to distinct functional categories and an in depth analysis on protein families constituting the Arabidopsis genome will be presented.
