The Plant Genome Online Database Tutorial is an interactive online learning tool for students and researchers to discover how to search the plant genome databases, where to look for information and how to interpret the displays. The online tutorial is available at the Plant Genome Data and Information Center (PGDIC) website at http://www.nal.usda.gov/pgdic sponsored by the National Agriculture Library and the U.S. Department of Agriculture / Agricultural Research Service (USDA/ARS). The tutorial is divided into a series of lessons, and through the use of frames, the user's screen is divided into two sections; the top frame is a static dialog to guide the user through various examples, and the bottom frame is a live connection to the genome database where the user can execute search functions and practice their skills in navigating the databases, providing a rich learning experience. The tutorial was created in 1995 under the auspices of the Plant Genome Research Program (PGRP). Since then the computer center supporting the databases moved to Demeter's Genomes, a service of the USDA/ARS Center for Agricultural Bioinformatics. In the current release of the tutorial, links have been updated, new examples have been added and personnel changes have been noted.
