PAG-VI Plant & Animal Genome VI Program

January 18 - 22, 1998

DNA Helices derived from original artwork by PE Applied Biosystems

Welcome to the final program for the Plant & Animal Genome VI conference.

To see the PAG-VI abstracts go to: PAG-VI abstracts .

The abstracts from all the previous five meetings are available via the Internet: [http://www.intl-pag.org/]

The abstracts appear on the menu and have been indexed for convenient searching.

A secure online registration by credit card is now available.

The Organizing Committee would like to thank all those participants
of the PAG-V meeting who took the time to fill out the conference evaluation
form. The one comment that was most often mentioned
was the lack of space/seats at many of the workshops. Every year the
Organizing Committee plans for a bigger meeting and obtains larger
rooms/more seats for most workshops. Every year it seems our
optimistic projections are exceeded. We are working to resolve the
problem and will have larger rooms for all workshops that request the
additional space.

In response to the many constructive suggestions from PAG-V participants,
the meeting organization has been modified in a number of
places. The main changes are that the meeting will end at lunchtime
on Thursday, authors will only be required to be at their posters one
day (either Monday or Tuesday), there will be more afternoon
workshops, evening workshops will start and end earlier, and everyone
is encouraged to book their hotel rooms as early as possible, since
the US football Super Bowl will take place in San Diego the weekend
following the meeting and rooms will be difficult to obtain.

If you have not received a registration brochure in the mail, the
registration form is available online to be printed out on your local computer
printer. This form is required for registration.

Dress for the meeting will be informal. Speakers are encouraged
NOT to wear suits (or even ties).

Introduction

This draft plan will be updated on an irregular basis. As the program details
are finalized there will be minor changes. These changes are likely to occur in
the schedule until late into the fall of 1997. As of August 1 the list of
invited speakers is complete. As of November 11, 1997 a total of 30 workshops have been scheduled/planned so far!

Administration:

All administrative questions should be addressed to Darrin Scherago at
Scherago International Inc., 11 Penn Plaza, Suite 1003, New York,
NY 10001. His phone number is 1-212-643-1750 (extension 20)
(FAX number is 1-212-643-1758) and their Internet e-mail address is
pag@scherago.com. Scherago International is the conference organizer
for PAG-VI.

Abstracts:

Participants are invited to submit abstracts for the poster session
either in hard copy (printed form) or by e-mail (see Appendix A for
details). There were over 390 posters at PAG-V. The abstract forms
will have a set of categories to assure your poster talk is properly
handled. The printed abstract forms are now available from
Scherago International, however electronic submissions are much
preferred and easier.

This year all posters not will be up the entire length of the meeting. Posters need to be taken down by 8:00 pm on Wednesday evening this year. Those presenting posters this year need only be at their posters one day this year - Monday for the odd numbered posters and Tuesday for the even numbered posters.

All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the organizing
committee. The normal review turn-around time will be within two - three
weeks of receipt of the abstract. This year all abstracts should be
submitted to: PAG-VI Abstracts, USDA National Agriculture Library,
Beltsville, MD 20705 USA. You will be notified of the acceptance of
your abstract(s). Abstracts may be submitted on printed forms
available from Scherago or by e-mail ( pag6form@probe.nalusda.gov).
Once you have completed the abstarct form, send your form by
e-mail to: ( pag6abstracts@probe.nalusda.gov).

Abstracts may also be submitted via the WWW PAG-VI
abstract form
available by connecting to:

http://probe.nalusda.gov:8300/cgi-bin/pagabstracts-www.pl

PAG-VI abstracts will be available for browsing and searching on
the Internet once they are accepted by early
December 1997. All PAG meeting paper/poster abstracts have been indexed
for convenient searching from the WWW.

Abstract Instructions:

See Appendix A for details. Please note:
ABSTRACTS NOT INCLUDING ALL REQUIRED INFORMATION WILL BE REJECTED!!

All accepted abstracts are limited to 250 words and will be
included in the final printed program. For PAG-VI the poster board
size at the meeting will be 4 feet (1.22 meters) high by 6 feet (1.83
meters) wide. The abstract submission deadline is Monday, 3 November,
1997. Due the large number of abstracts, we WILL enforce the
deadline. Printed abstract forms are available from
Scherago International. Please contact them by phone, FAX, e-mail,
or regular post to obtain abstract forms.

Gerry Lazo, USDA/ARS, Albany will oversee the submission
and handling of the PAG-VI abstracts. Please direct all questions or
problems about abstract submissions to David Grant or Gerry Lazo.

variety of shopping and stores. There are also a number of
restaurants located in this mall, most of which are inexpensive.

A new trolley line connecting the Fashion Valley Mall and downtown
San Diego will be in operation in 1997. The trolley will make it easy
for conference attendees to go to downtown San Diego, as well as to
other locations on the San Diego trolley system
(such as south to the Mexican border).

Travel/Airline:

United Airlines is the official conference airline.
United is now offering additional 5% idscount to PAG-VI meeting attendees

coach fare).
For further details on conference airfare discounts in the USA,
please call United Airlines at 1-800-521-4041.
Outside the USA please call your local United Airlines office.
The PAG-VI conference code is: 516JH.

Tours:

For PAG-VI the organizing committee has found a tour company, Enjoy California Tours
which will offer tours of San Diego and the surrounding area.
There are five tours available, details of which can be found
by clicking here.

Visas:

While there is usually not a problem for international participants to obtain
a visa to attend the Plant & Animal Genome meeting, the Organizing Committee
is offering its assistance should any potential problem arise.
The contact point on the Organizing Committee for visas is
Hans Cheng,(hcheng@msu.edu).

Employment/Placement Office:
