DRAFT

of 10 January 1997

PAG-V Plant & Animal Genome V Program

January 12-16, 1997

Welcome to the draft program for the Plant & Animal Genome V conference. Based on the successes of the first four PG meetings, the scientific community working on genomics in livestock and other animal species is joining the program in 1997, with both joint and separate session. Details of the last meeting, PG-IV, can be found on the PG-IV Home Page. The abstracts from the previous four meetings are available via the Internet. Gopher to "probe.nalusda.gov" or use a WWW client to view:

http://probe.nalusda.gov

In either case, the abstracts appear on the menu and have been WAIS indexed for convenient searching.

NEW!!

If you have not received a registration brochure in the mail, a copy of the registration form is available online to be printed out on your local computer printer. This form is required for registration.

Dress for the meeting will be informal. Speakers are encouraged NOT to wear suits (or even ties).

Contents

Introduction

This draft plan will be updated on an irregular basis. As the program (speakers and workshops) are finalized they will be added (and subtracted when people drop out). Changes are also likely to occur in the schedule until late into the fall of 1996. This year 25 workshops have been scheduled so far!

Administration

All administrative questions should be addressed to Darrin Scherago at Scherago International Inc., 11 Penn Plaza, Suite 1003, New York, NY 10001. Their phone number is 1-212-643-1750 (FAX number is 1-212-643-1758) and their Internet e-mail address is pag5@scherago.com. Scherago International is the conference organizer for PAG-V.

Abstracts

Participants are invited to submit abstracts for the poster session either in hard copy (printed form) or by e-mail (see Appendix A for details). There were over 330 posters at PG-IV. Additional space has been obtained to handle even more posters at PAG-V. The abstract forms will have a set of categories to assure your poster talk is properly handled. The printed abstract forms are now available from Scherago International, however electronic submissions are preferred and easier.

All abstracts will be reviewed. The normal review turn-around time will be within two weeks of receipt of the abstract. This year all abstracts should be submitted to: PAG-V Abstracts, USDA National Agriculture Library, Beltsville, MD 20705. You will be notified of the acceptance of your abstract(s). Abstracts may be submitted on printed forms available from Scherago or by e-mail ( pag5form@probe.nalusda.gov). Abstracts may also be submitted via the WWW PAG-V abstract form available by connecting to:

http://probe.nalusda.gov:8300/cgi-bin/pgabstract.pl

PAG-V abstracts will be available for browsing and searching on the Internet once they are accepted in November-December 1996. PG-IV meetings have been WAIS indexed for convenient searching from the WWW or Gopher.

Abstract Instructions:

See Appendix A for details. Please note: ABSTRACTS NOT INCLUDING ALL REQUIRED INFORMATION WILL BE REJECTED!!

All accepted abstracts are limited to 250 words and will be included in the final printed program. For PAG-V the poster board size at the meeting will be 4 feet (1.22 meters) high by 6 feet (1.83 meters) wide. The abstract submission deadline is Monday, 4 November, 1996. This year we WILL enforce the deadline. Printed abstract forms are available from Scherago International. Please contact them by phone, FAX, e-mail, or regular post to obtain abstract forms.

This year, Steve Beckstrom-Sternberg, USDA, NAL will oversee the submission and handling of the PAG-V abstracts. Please direct all questions or problems about abstract submissions to Steve Beckstrom-Sternberg.
