To facilitate the production of farm animals with improved production traits and to possibly help in finding cures for human diseases we recently created 10-15 fold redundant bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) libraries using EcoRI-partially digested DNA from Chicken – CHORI-261, Turkey - CHORI-260, Atlantic Salmon - CHORI-214, Holstein bull - RPCI-42 and the Hereford bull - CHORI-240 (constructed using MboI partially digested genomic DNA), Pig - CHORI-242 and Sheep - CHORI-243 with the average insert sizes for these libraries: 195Kb, 192Kb, 188Kb, 164Kb, 167Kb and 173Kb respectively (sheep library has not been characterized yet) with a low percentage (<5%) of non-recombinant clones. Constructed BAC libraries will play an essential role for genome mapping and sequencing of these animals. All libraries are publicly available and additional information can be obtained through our web site: http://www.chori.org/bacpac This work was funded mostly as part of the USDA-ARS
