Workshop: Controlled Vocabulary/Ontology
The Specialised Plant Rresources for Informatics and Genomics (SPRIG) initiative and its associated WWW site (http://bioinformatics.org/sprig/) were set up last summer subsequent to a gathering of plant-focused bioinformaticians at the Intelligent Systems in Molecular Biology (ISMB) 2001 conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. Our site is not species-specific but serves all the plant community: in particular, higher plants of interest either as model organisms (i.e. Arabidopsis thaliana (the general (especially dicotyledon) plant model), Oryza sativa (the crop cereal model) or Medicago truncatula (the legume model)) and other plants of scientific or economic interest. SPRIG is intended to become a clearing house of public resources for plant-focused bioinformatics information including one-stop shopping for links to related groups and projects, plus a repository for plant-related database, analysis and presentation technologies.
