Obtaining the DNA sequence of any organism is only the first step in understanding the relationship between the genetic code and gene structure and function. We have developed a Comparative Genomics System (CGS) which is an integrated tool set used to analyze genomic DNA, graphically display the results and provide a rapid and efficient method for annotating genomic sequence data. Our system contains comparative genomics capabilites that include linking of DNA dot-plots to sequence annotations and the ability to view multiple distinct genomic sequences simultaneously. CGS also contains an annotation viewer that displays genomic DNA sequence analysis results in a parsed graphical format. CGS stores the results in a database that allows rapid visualization of BLAST, gene-prediction and MAR finding simultaneously. The genomic DNA analysis results from multiple homology searches and/or prediction algorithms are depicted as graphic sequence features linked to detailed results tables. Embedded in the graphical sequence features are clickable links that can access additional analysis tools and can be used to help identify specific gene structure and function.
