The field of microarray technology is revolutionizing biological research approaches. The various applications of microarrays include gene discovery, human diseases diagnosis and treatment, forensics, drug discovery, drug development, and agricultural diagnostics (such as detection and identification of plant pathogens). The production of microarrays involves the deposition of biological samples onto substrates (typically glass slides or membranes). A comparison of spot quality results using different spotting conditions with the Hitachi SPBIO arrayer on glass slides and membranes will be presented. Reproducibility of spot quality will be evaluated based on spot size, volume, and position. We will also present data demonstrating the use of microarrays for SNP and microbial detection. MiraiBio Inc. (Hitachi Genetic Systems) provides tools and instruments for microarrays production, bioimaging and bioinformatics.
