A database Ricegenes, a rice specific ACEDB database operating under unix system has been ported to a Macintosh and Windows platform for personal use in stand-alone mode. RiceMac is developed based on MacAce program for the PowerMac computers with the data of Ricegenes. The RiceMac requires at least 30 MB of memory, which can be expanded with virtual memory. RiceWin is developed based on WinAce program for Windows95/98 requires 16 MB of RAM with the data of Ricegenes. Both programs are available in two formats, compressed format and CD-ROM format. The compressed format is stuffed as self-extracted file and will be automatically extracted with execution. The compressed formats can be downloaded at the ftp site of Myongji Bioserver (http://bio.myongji.ac.kr) and NAL, USDA (ftp://probe.nalusda.gov/pub/ricegenes). The hybrid 2X CD-ROM containing RiceMac and RiceWin is available with free of charge upon written request.
