BIOINFORMATICS FOR THE SMALL PROJECT

THOMAS K BLAKE

The way each of us does research is fundamentally different than it was in 1970. We can no longer be content with knowing all that is known about a specific gene, or a specific germplasm pool. Instead of being fonts of wisdom for our students and colleagues, we now need to emulate information retrieval software packages. We all hope to contribute to our developing information base at several levels. We need to understand how data is gathered, processed, compiled, stored, interpreted and accessed if we hope to contribute effectively. This presentation will cover our current path from sequencing gel to QTL.
