Plant & Animal Genome VII Program
January 17 - 21, 1999
DNA Helices derived from original artwork by PE Applied Biosystems
Welcome to the draft program for the Plant & Animal Genome VII
conference. We have moved all materials for the plant and animal genome
meetings from the USDA, National Agriculture Library (NAL)
plant genome web
site to this new web site, which is on a computer system exclusively
dedicated to the conference.
Details of the last meeting, PAG-VI, can be found on the
PAG-VI Home Page.
The abstracts from all the previous six meetings are available via
the Internet on this computer system:
The abstracts from these past meetings appear on the menu and have been
indexed for convenient
searching.
Abstracts for the PAG-VII meeting can be found by clicking here.
Based on feedback from participants the organization and structure of
the draft program has been changed. This home page for the meeting is an
overview of the main parts of the meeting. The
PAG Table of Contents now links to the information about the meeting
and its various parts (e.g, workshops, sessions, travel grants, and so
on). This page will only contain an overview of the meeting.
The Organizing Committee would like to thank all those participants
of the PAG-VI meeting who took the time to fill out the conference
evaluation form. The one comment that was, again, most often mentioned was
the lack of space/seats at many of the workshops. Every year the
Organizing Committee plans for a bigger meeting and obtains larger
rooms/more seats for most workshops, based on the requests from each
Worskhop leader. Every year it seems our
optimistic projections are exceeded. We are working to resolve the
problem and will have larger rooms for all workshop leaders that request
the additional space. As of January 11, 1999 over 1075 have registered for
the meeting (there were 1040 in total at PAG-VI), so there may still some
space problems in some workshop sessions.
Meeting Overview:
In response to the many constructive suggestions from PAG-VI
participants, the meeting organization has been modified in a number of
places. The main changes are that the meeting will end at lunchtime
on Thursday, authors will only be required to be at their posters one
day (either Monday or Tuesday), there will be fewer main lectures, and
the workshops will be spread out to minimize potential and real conflicts
for those wanting to attend workshops in related areas. This year the
Banquet will be held Wednesday evening, and the lunches on Monday and
Tuesday will be included in the registration fee.
As of December 22, 1998 PAG-VII will have 537 poster talks and 35
workshops and vendor presentations, a considerable increase in both areas
over what there was last year. Including the poster session, worskhops,
computer session, and invited talks, there are over 700 abstracts which
are online now and which will be published in the meeting program guide.
The abstracts for the PAG-VII meeting can be found by clicking here.
The winners of the ISPMB student travel award grants and the
Jorgensen student travel award grants have been
announced. Click here for the list of the
awardees.
As usual there we will pass out evaluation forms towards the end of the
meeting for particpants to fill out. This year we have also put the form
on the web so you may send in your comments and evaulation after you get
home. The form is available by
clicking here.
