IRRI Discussion on Bioinformatics Strategy
Co-Organizers: Gurdev Khush, Graham McLaren, John Bennett, Hei Leung, Zhikang Li, Mike Jackson

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)is in the process of defining its needs in the area of Bioinformatics to support its goals in Functional Genomics. We would like to start this process with a broad-based discussion of available technology and then refine this into a definite strategy addressing the following requirements;

1. Local generation, capture and manipulation of genomic data;
2. Integration of local data with international bioinformatic resources;
3. Sharing genomic and traditional data with research partners;
4. Access to large scale bioinformatic applications;
5. Extending this capacity to out research partners in developing countries.

At this session there will be initial discussion on these points. All persons interested to join this discussion are welcome. If you have not had contact with the organizers please e-mail Graham McLaren and he will send you agenda information.
