The USDA-funded SolGenes database contains genetic data from tomato, potato, and pepper. It is accessible at http://probe.nalusda.gov and http://geneous.cit.cornell.edu, as well as mirror sites in the UK and Israel. Both the Cornell and UK servers provide an improved interface between the WWW and ACEDB database software. SolGenes is also available for downloading and installation on the user's own Windows 95 or NT computer, offering faster performance and the native ACEDB graphical user interface. Since PAG-VI, the number of chromosome maps in SolGenes has increased by 30% to 275, the number of loci by 35% to 4500, probes by 25% to 1800, and QTLs by 45% to 600. Germplasm records have increased from 4400 to 8600, and references from 900 to 5000 (over 1400 with abstracts). Our immediate goal is the incorporation of all GenBank accessions derived from Solanaceous species, and the display of sequence alignments with high similarity scores. Through the SolGenes WebServer (http://geneous.cit.cornell.edu/solgenes), we hope to expand our offering of abstracts, position announcements, references about gene nomenclature, and other html documents.
