A database containing information about plant defense response genes, now exceeding over 100 clones, is being developed. We are using these clones to test 'candidate gene approach' to map QTL in plants, particularly in rice and potato. Candidate genes include genes for both pathogen recognition (resistance genes and homologs) and general plant defense (defense response genes). Information on the genes includes genbank links to Accession number, gene name, clone name, species name from which the gene was cloned, vector name, restriction sites used to excise the insert, insert size, PCR that amplifies the insert and links to author reference. An instance of the database is available at http://www-personal.ksu.edu/~jaishre and can be accessed using "guest" as userid and ksqtldatG as the password.
