Determining the genotype of many individuals at a large number of loci is an experience many of us share. As marker throughput has increased, so has the amount of time and effort expended on scoring and recordingmarker phenotypes. We decided to attempt to attack this problem through development of a software package which would automate many aspects of this problem.
Genographer takes digitized lane data from ABI automated DNA sequencer files, permits the reconstruction of gel images (you select lanes to compile into your gel), permits the selection of bins of interest, provides thumbnail sketches of signal/noise levels in each lane in a bin, allows the operator to select multiple scoring thresholds, then deposits the scored data in an ASCII file.
Genographer is copyrighted, but freely available.
