Molecular marker technologies are creating important and novel tools that can be utilized by the livestock industries to improve production, management and breeding. These tools can provide genetic solutions for a number of applications including parent verification, veterinary diagnostics, trait specific testing and molecular breeding. As these tools are being developed by research institutions around the world, however, strategies and methods need to be developed to ensure that these tools are successfully utilized by industry. PE AgGen, Inc. is a molecular marker service company focused on applications in both plant and animal agriculture. AgGen has the appropriate combination of technologies, infrastructure, and key relationships with industry to ensure the successful implementation of molecular marker tools in the livestock industries. AgGen's goal is to develop partnerships and alliances with researchers and with industry leaders to implement marker technology. This strategy results in the steady adoption of the technology within the industry without creating unrealistic expectations. In addition to utilizing it's technology to commercialize discoveries made in research programs, AgGen also looks to help researchers increase their pace of discovery. AgGen provides or is currently developing a range of services and products for researchers including custom genotyping, sequencing, expression analysis and genomics. I will discuss three main topics in my presentation; PE AgGen the company and vision, commercialization strategy and industry benefits for parent verification and trait specific diagnostics, and strategies and methods for commercialization of QTLs.
