COTTON GENOME MAPPING AND COTTON GENOME DATABASE

JOHN YU, Russell J. Kohel

USDA-ARS, Crop Germplasm Research Unit, College Station, TX 77845

We will provide an overview of our cotton genome program. Specifically, we will discuss a framework map based on an interspecific cross between G. hirsutum L. acc. TM-1 and G. barbadense L. acc. 3-79. We will also discuss applications of this map to different cotton genome mapping projects, including localization of genes for both simple and complex traits of economic or agronomic importance. Finally, we will present a current status of the cotton genome database, CottonDB, maintained by our research unit. Detailed data and information will be exchanged at the cotton workshop.
