A 'MG recombinant inbred population' which consists of 164 F13 lines has been developed from a cross between Milyang 23(Tongil type) and Gihobyeo(Japonica type) by single seed descent. A RFLP framework map using this population have been constructed, and the integrated map of morphological markers, isozyme loci, microsatellites, AFLPs, and new cDNA markers is being made on the framework map for a highly saturated comprehensive map. So far, 206 RFLPs, 89 microsatellites, 4 isozymes, 233 AFLPs, and 2 morphological markers have been mapped through international collaboration. The integrated map covered 1,826 cM with an average interval size of 4.5 cM on the framework map and 3.4 cM overall. The framework map is being used for analyzing quantitative traits loci(QTLs) of agronomic characteristics, yield and yield components, grain shape, and some physico-chemical properties relating to rice quality. In 1995, the number of significant QTLs affecting each trait ranged from one to five, and total 38 QTLs were detected in 17 traits. The percent of variance explained by each QTL ranged from 5.6 to 66.9%.. In 1996, yearly variation of QTLs at two different locations is being evaluated. Varietal difference and mapping of the genes conferring resistance to ozone, and histological peculiarities of abscission region between grain and pedicell and their relation with the degree of grain shedding are also being evaluated, and the results will be discussed.
