The cotton genome database, named CottonDB, has been available at the National Agricultural Library (NAL) since January 1995 (CottonDB release 95.1). The current version (CottonDB release 96.9) has additional data added and has been updated to the recent program versions. Presently, CottonDB is based on the database program ACEDB version 4.3h (Richard Durbin and Jean Thierry-Mieg, MRC LMB Cambridge, England and CNRS, Montpellier, France, respectively). CottonDB is available over the World-Wide-Web (WWW) under the URL address http://probe.nalusda.gov:8300/. Versions of the program for local installation are also available through the ftp site located at the machine probe.nalusda.gov. To facilitate the accumulation of cotton-related information in the database, a collection of on-line WWW forms are available at the CottonDB Data Collection Site located at http://algodon.tamu.edu/. The database now contains a wide collection of information of Germplasm, Maps, Loci, Sequences, Probes, Pathology, Traits, Literature, and Colleagues.
