The Agricultural Genome Information Server with more than 20 plant databases and external links to over 30 outside databases, is poised to enter the world of complex queries and data mining in an incremental fashion. An initial step was to create links to and from external databases. A second step was to allow queries between AGIS databases. Through the logical extension of the ACEDB Tablemaker adapted for WWW, cross-database tables can be created. Via the judicious use of Perl and its WWW libraries, external databases can be consulted, bringing back a filtered set of data, allowing automatically cascading queries. The Genome Informatics Group is exploring ways to implement data mining and complex queries. Sample complex queries will be illustrated.
