The sequencing of citrus ESTs in Brazil produced a huge number of information on expressed genome. The CitEST database includes over than 300,000 reads with 260,000 valid reads used for assembly and comparison. Unigenes set of sweet orange (32,121), mandarin (18,873), Poncirus trifoliata (12,873) and other citrus species (27,954) are generated from several libraries under biotic (Xylella fastidiosa, CTV, CiLV, Phythophtora, mite), abiotic (drought) stress and during fruit development. The bioinformatics pipeline includes sequencing processing, unigenes building, peptide and protein extraction, annotation of sequence data and in silico hybridization. A general unigene - unigene and codon usage comparison between different species (Arabidopsis, rice, grape, maize and Populus), besides within citrus species was carried out. Detailed analysis among libraries was performed.
