CGAT/NIFTS-Japan has collected a total of 29,228 ESTs in the EST analysis program. EST collection has been generated from 19 cDNA libraries covering different tissues and developmental stages. Among the 19 libraries, 16 were derived from Citrus unshiu and the three remaining libraries were derived from C. sinensis, C. lemon and the other citrus species. The EST sequences were subjected to the clustering and automatic annotation by FANTOM system customized for citrus. EST collection includes a total of 29,228 ESTs, grouped in 13,896 putative unigenes. Each unigene was translated into its amino acid sequences and subjected to similarity search against the amino acid database and motif database using Fasty, Blastx and motif search algorithm. Among the 13,986 unigenes, 6,759 (48.6%) showed similarity to genes with known function and 759 (5.5%) showed similarity to only functional domain. The results could be linked with the public databases and compared for their characteristics. The data applied to develop the tools for functional genomics including oligo array in the next phase program.
