ISPMB Student Travel Grants:

The ISPMB is again sponsoring plant genome student travel grant awards of $250 each. This year there will be four (4) travel grants. For details please contact Dr. Douglas Bigwood by e-mail (dwbigwood@yahoo.com). The deadline for applying for these ISPMB travel grants is 7 October 2005. The ISPMB student travel grants will be presented at the Wednesday evening dinner. All students who receive travel grant awards will also receive their registration fee paid for by Scherago International. To apply, please fill out the ISPMB Travel Awards Application Form.


Scherago Student Travel Grants:

This the final year the ISPMB Student Travel grants will available as the International Society for Plant Molecular Biology will officially be disbanded at their the 2006 Congress. (http://www.uga.edu/ispmb/)

For PAG-XIV in 2006 Scherago International has agreed to sponsor four (4) student travel grants of $250 each. Three (3) of these will be in the Plant area and 1 (one) will be in the animal area, which corresponds closely to the breakdown of attendees.

The deadline for applying for these Scherago travel grants is 7 October 2005. The Scherago student travel grants will be presented at the Wednesday evening dinner. Neal A. Jorgensen Genome Travel Awards:

Partial funding ($525 travel award and complimentary registration from Scherago International) for graduate student (not postdoc) travel to the PAG meeting is available. Interested graduate students should contact the relevant Species Coordinator (pig, cattle, sheep, poultry, or (tentative) horse). The application should consist of a letter requesting why the award is being sought and a printed copy of the students' abstract. To apply, please fill out the Neal A. Jorgensen Genome Travel Awards Application Form. Notification will be after the abstract deadline of 7 October 2005.


Michael D. Gale Travel Grant Award:

Starting with the PAG-XIII meeting Scherago International, in honor of one of the PAG meeting founders and leaders in the plant genome community is sponsoring the Michael D. Gale travel grant award. This award is for one travel grant award of $1000 to an international plant genome researcher who has NOT previously attended a PAG meeting. Applicants must submit a poster paper and one letter of recommendation from your department/office in order to be considered for this award. The application deadline is 7 October, 2005. Jerome P. Miksche Travel Grant Award:

Scherago International again is sponsoring the Jerome P. Miksche travel grant award. This award is for one travel grant award of $1000 to an international plant genome researcher who has NOT previously attended a PAG meeting. Applicants must submit a poster paper and one letter of recommendation from your department/office in order to be considered for this award. The application deadline is 7 October, 2005. Earl J. Scherago Travel Grant Award:

Starting with the PAG-X meeting Scherago International, in honor of passing in 2000 of the founder of their company, is sponsoring the Earl Scherago travel grant award. This award is for one travel grant award of $1000 to an international plant genome researcher who has NOT previously attended a PAG meeting. Applicants must submit a poster paper and one letter of recommendation from your department/office in order to be considered for this award. The application deadline is 7 October, 2005. Rockefeller Foundation Grants:

The Rockefeller Foundation is again providing funds for support of scientists to attend the PAG meeting. This year the emphasis of their support is for scientists from developing countries. The application deadline is 7 October, 2005. Please contact the Rockefeller grant coorodinator, Katrien Devos at the University of Georgia for more information.


Aquaculture Genomics Travel Grants:

Aquaculture Species Group: Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Fellowship Bursaries for PAG-XIV
The Aquaculture Species Group is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of Travel Bursaries, of up to $1,000, to support the attendance of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at PAG-XIV. Every graduate student and postdoctoral fellow who registers for the PAG-XIV meeting and submits an Abstract to the Aquaculture Workshop is eligible for consideration. Applications should be submitted by E-mail to either John Liu (zliu@acesag.auburn.edu) or Greg Warr (warrgw@musc.edu) and include the following items. A) the Title and Authors of the submitted Abstract, B) a statement of the anticipated costs for the applicant to attend the PAG-XIV meeting, and a statement of additional resources (if any) that will be available to support their attendance. Applicants MUST also arrange for their supervisor to send an E-mail to John Liu or Greg Warr confirming their status as a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow.
