GrainGenes, the international Triticeae and Avena genome database (wheat.pw.usda.gov), is the most comprehensive source of molecular and phenotypic information on wheat, barley, rye and oats. The GrainGenes map collection is an extensive representation of ca. 1200 maps from 130 mapping studies including genetic, consensus, composite and physical maps. The GrainGenes map collection is summarized and annotated at http://wheat.pw.usda.gov/ggpages/map_summary.htm. CMap is now operational on GrainGenes 2.0 as the primary web-based map viewer allowing users to view side-by-side comparisons of genetic and physical maps, highlighting common loci. The GBrowse map viewer is also online and is loaded with several maps only available via this resource. Interactive web-based maps were developed to support the Ac/Ds transposon tagging system in barley and provides access to extensive information about DsT insertions and naked-eye phenotypes (NEPs) in the Oregon Wolfe Barley population. An open invitation is extended to the research community to suggest improvements, contribute data and develop tools to better serve this public database. GrainGenes is a product of the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS).
