Clemson University houses a Genomics Institute (CUGI) focusing on research, teaching, and service in genomics. One service component of CUGI is to produce and distribute high quality BAC and EST libraries from plants, animals, and microbes and to provide convenient and affordable access to these libraries, high-density hybridization filters, clones and related technologies. With the assistance of high-throughput robotic devices, CUGI has produced, acquired and distributed the majority of plant, insect and microbial BAC libraries in use today. Over the past year, we have constructed a number of new BAC libraries and presently maintain in excess of 10 million clones. With the acquisition of four large NSF and NIH grants, CUGI is now actively producing BAC libraries for a diversity of vertebrate and invertebrate animals in addition to plants. Recent user-friendly enhancements to our web-based ordering system for BAC resources(www.genome.clemson.edu)have improved the interface in which these products can be obtained.
