Poster: Gene Isolation
Terpenoids are a large and diverse family of natural products that plays important role in pollinator attraction, allelopathy and plant defense. The monoterpenes are extensively used in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Recently, we isolated a full- length c-DNA with an open reading frame of 1646 nucleotides and coding for a protein of 548 amino acid residues. No similarity was found at the nucleotide level, however, it shown 75% similarity with a terpene synthase from Citrus junos at the amino acid level. Expression analysis demonstrated that the gene expresses in mature fruits of sweet orange, white and red grapefruit, but not in leaves, roots or unripe fruits. The expression specificity is contained at the 3 Žend of the gene. A genomic clone of 3 Kb was obtained and molecular characterization will be presented.
