Medicago truncatula is a forage crop and a model plant for legume genomics. Worldwide research on Medicago genomics has resulted in several dispersed and discrete information packages. As part of the Medicago Genomics Center at the Noble Foundation, we are building an integrated informatics platform to support all phases of genomics research. The currently available tools include MtGenes, CEDA, AIM and MSFACTs. MtGenes, a portal-like central repository for Medicago genomics, integrates internal and public databases to provide a unified view of gene function, protein information, EST expression and clone information. CEDA is a target selection tool, which is built on top of MtGenes and prompts comparative analysis of user-defined EST datasets for Medicago functional genomics. AIM is a microarray tracking and information system with preliminary visual analysis tools. The prototypic features of AIM include slide tracking, experiment tracking and integrated data analysis. MSFACTs is a program for the automated import, alignment, reformatting, and export of large chromatographic data sets to allow for more rapid visualization and interrogation of metabolomics profiles. These tools and several others are currently being tested by internal users and will be made available to the public in 2003.
