Model Organism Bring Your-own Database Interface Conference (MOBY-DIC), was held at the Kenderdine Campus, Emma Lake, Saskatchewan, Sept 21-24, 2001, with a total of 12 participants in attendence. The meeting began with two formal presentations from Lincoln Stein (CSHL), and Damian Gessler (NCGR) about the Distributed Annotation System (DAS) and ISYS data integration systems. These two presentations gave a clear direction towards how database interoperability could be achieved, and by the end of the second day the beginnings of the MOBY specification for biological database/service interoperability had been laid down. Further information about the project is available on the project web site, http://www.biomoby.org.
