Poster: Large Insert Libraries
The gene Rdr1 confers resistance to blackspot (Diplocarpon rosae), one of the most serious fungal diseases on roses. This gene was mapped in diploid and tetraploid rose populations segregating for blackspot resistance. Closely linked AFLP-markers were identified and were used to screen a BAC library from R. rugosa, a diploid wild species. The library comprises 5 genome equivalents of R. rugosa. It consists of 27000 clones with an average insert size of 105kB. BAC clones were isolated on both sides of Rdr1 and a contig spanning this genomic region is currently assembled. BAC-derived markers are integrated in the local map around Rdr1.
