Welcome to the draft program for the Plant Animal & Microbe Genomes X conference.

Details of the last meeting, PAG-IX, can be found on the PAG-IX Home Page.
The abstracts from all the previous nine meetings are available via the Internet on this computer system: [http://www.intl-pag.org/]

The abstracts from these past meetings appear on the menu and have been indexed for convenient searching.

Abstracts for the PAG-X meeting will be available one month prior to the start of the PAG-X meeting. The abstracts will be released on 12 December 2001 and can be found by clicking here.

Based on feedback from participants the organization and structure of the PAG-X has again been slightly changed and improved. This home page for the meeting is an overview of the main parts of the meeting. The PAG Table of Contents now links to the information about the meeting and its various parts (e.g, workshops, sessions, travel grants, and so on). This page will only contain an overview of the meeting.

The main change for PAG-X is that the meeting will include microbes, which had been a separate meeting (directly following the PAG meeting) for the past two years.

The Organizing Committee would like to thank all those participants of the PAG-IX meeting who took the time to fill out the conference evaluation form. The one comment that was, again, most often mentioned was the overlap of many of the workshops and that the rooms for the workshops did not have enough seats. We believe we have been able to resolve this problem to a great extent by adding workshops on Tuesday evening and finding larger rooms for those workshops which did not have enough space and seats. We will again have the main lecture room that easily seats well over 2000 people and we will have even larger rooms for all workshop leaders that request the additional space. At PAG-IX there were almost 1700 attendees and PAG-X, with the microbes attendees is expected to have an even larger attendance, perhaps as many as 2000.

Meeting Overview:

In response to the many constructive suggestions from PAG-IX participants, the meeting organization has been modified in a number of places. The main changes from last year that is being continued is that the meeting will start on Saturday, the banquet will continue to be held on Wednesday evening, and there will be only two afternoons for posters. Again there will be just a few plenary and main lectures, and there will be separate, parallel plant and aminal sessions only on Wednesday. The microbes lectures will take place on Monday afternoon and Tuesday evening.

More new workshops have been added including Edible Legumes, Organellar Genetics, Plant Alien Introgression, Plant Transgene Genetics, Grape Genome, Connectrons, and Plant Transformation. The WWW workshop, held for many years, will not be held at the PAG-X meeting. The Coat Color workshop is held in alternate years, the next one being at PAG-XI in January 2003.

In the microbe area there will be four (4) workshops. They will be a microbe bioinformatics workshop, a USDA 2000 Microbe Genome Awardee Progress Reports workshop, a USDA/NSF 2001 New Microbe Genome Awardee Presentations, and a Microbe Animal & Plant Hosts-Pathogens workshop.

For PAG-X there will be some 68 workshop and vendor presentations (an increase of over one dozen from the last conference), as well as the usual computer program demonstrations.

Again the organizers will pass out evaluation forms towards the end of the meeting for particpants to fill out. This year the form is again on the web so you may send in your comments and evaulation after you get home. The form is available by clicking here.
