NBIAP BIOTECHNOLOGY BULLETIN BOARD AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS.
Doug King, NBIAP
The National Biological Impact Assessment Program (NBIAP)
was created "to facilitate and assess the safe application of new
techniques for the genetic modification of plants,, animals,, and
microorganisms to benefit agriculture and the environment". Five
project areas have been established, one of which is Information
Resources, designed to share and disseminate information relevant
to agricultural and environmental biotechnology. NBIAP has
developed an electronic bulletin board system which can be
accessed by personal computer users nationwide. Information
provided through the BBS to subscribers falls into five
categories- news reports, databases, federal publications,
general information, and a message base. NBIAP has also
developed the Permit Application System to aid researchers in
applying for field test permits, and the Termination Report
System for reporting the results of field tests.
